Hidden Gem of NeeLam Valley

Taobat—The Hidden Gem of Neelum Valley

Nestled deep in the heart of Azad Kashmir, Taobat is a breathtaking paradise that marks the last village of Neelum Valley along the Line of Control (LOC). Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush meadows, crystal-clear rivers, and a peaceful atmosphere, Taobat is truly a hidden gem for travelers seeking serenity away from the hustle of city life.

Distance from Islamabad

  • Islamabad to Taobat: Approximately 340 km
  • Travel time: Around 10–12 hours (depending on road conditions, weather, and stopovers)
  • The journey itself is an adventure, passing through Muzaffarabad, Keran, Sharda, and Kel before finally reaching Taobat.

Why Taobat is Famous

  • Last village of Neelum Valley—symbolic and adventurous.
  • Natural beauty—untouched landscapes, green meadows, alpine forests.
  • Neelum River origin point – mesmerizing turquoise waters.
  • Peaceful environment—less commercialized compared to Keran or Sharda.
  • Camping & trekking—ideal for nature enthusiasts.

How to Go There

By Road on Bike and Car (Most Common)

Islamabad → Murree → Kohala → Muzaffarabad → Keran → Sharda → Kel → Taobat.

The road condition is mainly decent from Islamabad to Kel; however, from Kel to Taobat, conditions are really terrible. You’ll require a 4×4 jeep, a 150cc bike, or a car with sufficient ground clearance.

Public Transport

Public transport is available from Islamabad to Kel. If you are using public transport, then you have to take the jeep from Kel for visiting Taobat and Taobat Bala.

Best Option

I think a bike is the best choice if you’re traveling alone or with friends. If you’re heading out with your family, consider driving your own car to Kel and then hiring a local jeep to explore the stunning Taobat and Taobat Bala.
